CHAPTER FOURTEEN

As he closed the patio doors, Felix couldn’t decide if he was nervous, anxious, or excited. Maybe a combination of all three with a heavy dose of turned on to go with them.

If Emery had done as Felix had ordered, he’d be lying on the bed, stark naked, waiting for Felix to join him.

So they could have sex.

Felix gulped. Okay. There was a lot more nervousness than he’d thought. Butterflies played the piano in his belly. He hadn’t been this nervous since his first time, but . . .

This was Emery. Emery had joked about being terrible in bed, but the truth was, it was completely possible they’d be incompatible in the sack. And then what? What did people who liked each other romantically do when they weren’t compatible sexually? Just keep trying until they got it right?

Felix wasn’t opposed to that solution—he’d try anything with Emery—but there was no guarantee it would help any.

He took a deep breath as he locked the doors. He was panicking about nothing, which just served to prove that this was important, a fact he’d already known, of course.

Once he’d finished locking up and had set the alarm, he stood in his sitting room and stared sightlessly at the flat screen on the wall. Emery had offered to slow down. Perhaps Felix should take him up on it?

Problem was, now that Felix had told Emery how he felt, now that he’d jumped in with both feet, he didn’t want to hit pause. What would be the point? Sure, sex changed things, Emery was right about that. But things had already changed between them. They’d opened their personal storybook onto a whole new chapter.

There were supplies in the bedroom, right? He never brought anyone here. Truthfully, he hadn’t had that much sex in his life and—

Well, damn. What if he was the one who was terrible in bed?

Okay. Deep breath. This was sex. It wasn’t rocket science. It wasn’t even as complicated as writing a song or learning new music. Definitely wasn’t as hard as “Flight of the Bumblebee” or Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. He totally had this.

If only Emery wasn’t fast asleep.

Biting back a laugh, Felix leaned against the bedroom doorjamb. Nervousness fled as he took in Emery’s slack mouth, the soft snores. He’d done as told—he was naked all right. Naked, splayed on top of the covers, his half-hard cock resting against his thigh. And dead to the world.

If Felix wasn’t so amused, he might’ve been insulted.

He stripped to his boxer briefs, then face planted onto the bed, making sure to land as hard as possible.

Emery jerked awake with a sharp inhale. “Wha—”

Felix fell into helpless laughter.

“Shit.” Scrubbing both hands over his face, Emery groaned into them. “Did I fall asleep? What time is it?”

“It’s only been a few minutes.”

“Sorry.” Emery dropped his hands and turned his head to face him. “The day caught up with me, I guess. Why are you smiling at me like that?”

“You’re cute.”

Emery grunted and turned onto his side.
